Description
TRUMBULL, CT — Police are warning residents about a significant uptick in car thefts and burglaries in town. There have been 19 vehicles stolen from driveways since the beginning of the year and 163 thefts from unlocked vehicles during the same time period.
Recently three vehicles were stolen from different parts of town, including a 2019 Lincoln Navigator valued at $95,000. The keys were left inside the unlocked car.
"Residents who leave their keys in an unlocked car are inviting thieves to steal them," said Lt. Brian Weir, police spokesman.
Most of the thefts occur between midnight and 5 a.m.
Residents with outdoor camera systems are asked to change the settings so an audible alarm goes off if there is motion detected in their driveways during the late-night hours.
