Looking to create the world’s top Duran Duran tribute. For those who are familiar with the tribute scene, you know that Texas is home to many top flight tribute bands. There are also a number of excellent opportunities for premium tribute bands (e.g. Rediscover Festival in July), and good money to be made playing to large audiences for full production tribute shows. Tributes to Duran almost always struggle because there are few who are able or willing to properly assume the role of Simon LeBon. In fairness, it’s not easy. But the potential is huge. Do you have what it takes to be Simon LeBon? At a minimum, it will require the ability to sing songs from a catalog of over 30 hits, the ability to look, move, and banter like the front man of Duran Duran. This role is as much an acting role as it is a singing role, but you must have the chops. You should also have a passion for recreating the shows of Duran Duran. You will not be alone. I have been studying and playing the bass lines of Duran Duran for fifteen years. I have played on stage with one of the best Duran Duran tributes on the planet. I have a wardrobe full of modern John Taylor outfits. I also work with former and current members of Duran’s technical crew. I have the same gear that JT uses from classic era and today. I have access to a number of resources that will help this show get up and running. But admittedly, the key is the right Simon. I also have an amazing brother who is an expert in Duran Duran guitars. To the gear, the outfits, the attention to detail, he is (and this is saying something) more passionate about Duran than I am. He knows every Andy, Warren, and Dom lick and tone better than anyone. He could play in Duran Duran. That’s not an exaggeration. We can get a Nick and a Roger, but honestly, without a Simon, there’s no point. Concept is ready to go with financial backing and booking, but we need YOU, Simon. I am based in Austin, but this is open to anybody in Texas who is willing to commute for rehearsals and gigs. I am willing to do the same. If you have contacts for other musicians who might be a good fit for drums, keys, BV, sax, great! If you have venue contacts, great! If you have skills in areas such as music and video production, great! We definitely need all those things. But they are of little value unless we have the right Simon.
