NORTH READING, MA — North Reading police are warning residents to beware of several scams circulating. "Please be vigilant and if you received an unsolicited call at home to discuss a computer virus, credit card purchase or supposed "problem", use caution," the department said. Officials clarified that most government agencies will not call you, you will receive a letter on official government letterhead if there is a problem or if you're owed money. Police said one of the biggest giveaways of a scam is when the person asks for a gift card. Police specified that residents should not give out personal information, including Social Security numbers, credit/debit card numbers, birthdays, etc. to anyone without confirming who they are, even if that requires calling them back. If you have questions, police suggest contacting someone you trust or the police station at 978.664.3131 press 0 to speak with an officer.
