Description

Male or Female. Not looking for amateur or hobby level. Respondent should be fully developed, not rusty, only. On key but I am open to off kilter vox styles like a Pete Shelley, Ian Hunter or Tom Verlaine type of vibe--but not off key/on key instability trying to find the note at the top of a line. Lou Reed style? No. Rap? No. Broadway Musical Theater Style, lots of vibrato? Big big big NO. In some instances there's latitude in what sounds good or works really well, just because it works. Sometimes it just boils down to vocal texture, rhythm, timing and injecting a style into the mix. It seems like some of the best rock type singers aren't really singers. They are vocalists, like Jagger, who knows how to deliver a hook. Having a knack for blending singing, vocalizing and delivering a vibe are some of the key attributes I've been looking for. Vocals only. The 'divided attention' factor really does impact vocals negatively. Playing 'some guitar' or any other instrument on a beginner or intermediate level won't blend well. No immediate $$ but the potential is definitely here. Session singers for hire and remote recording folks are not applicable to this situation. This is a band startup. The band will be based on original music. Fresh sounding cool stuff in development. Short form, straight to the point, catchy, fresh sounding chord progressions that are not cliches or hackneyed, or overly derivative. I'll be covering expenses, so a genuine pro level attitude goes a long way here. I am not spending money so people can engage in the usual musician's unreliability behaviors and problems; It'll be work for sure but I want it to be fun for all, not torture. Rehearsals will be in Midtown West, most likely. As far as band and music quality goes I'll say good isn't good enough it has to be great. It's a tough market out there. I work in marketing and I do a lot music promo. Rock is coming back after a hiatus because people are sick of stupid pop stars and their derivative music. It's not resonating. Back catalog music, previous big sellers account for 70% of established record company sales. Be reliable, easy to work with and in sync with the agenda and direction we are setting up; you'll be collaborating for sure, but you won't be calling the shots. So there's a choice to make: you either want to be in a pro level startup with good sales potential, or you don't. Those who are pathologically uncooperative (about 97% of musicians, based on my experience and observation) please move along--quickly. Get it done personality types go to the front of the line. If you have marketable talent this may be the ticket out of the day job. We want to working at music full time, write, record, tour, rest, repeat. Rather than rattling off a wish list of desirable musical influences and indications I'd prefer you send a link to something that is reasonably current and in sync or close to the genre types in the headline. I can tell if someone is going to be a good fit or not. Thanks.
