Come learn about coral reef restoration at the Mote Marine Laboratory in Summerland Key, Florida. Schedule of Events - Tour: 9:00 a.m. - Tour of the Mote Elizabeth Moore International Center for Coral Reef Research and Restoration. Throughout the tour of Mote’s facility, we will learn about the history and science behind Florida’s coral reefs and how Mote is help to restore our precious reef systems.Panel: 10:30 a.m. - Hear from elected officials, scientists, and other invited guests during a panel discussion revolving around coral reef restoration, conservation, and resiliency of our Florida Keys.Lunch: 12:00 p.m. - Light lunch (sandwich trays and various snacks) will be available after the panel discussion. This will be a great opportunity to network with panelists and other participants before we gear up to SCUBA Dive or snorkel our reef systems just off the coast of the Florida Keys.Dive/Snorkel the Reef: 1:30 p.m. - All interested/available parties will depart Mote at 1:00 p.m. and arrive at Captain Hooks Dive Center (29675 Overseas Hwy, Big Pine Key, FL 33043) by 1:15 p.m. All dive/snorkel paperwork for participants will be done before arrival at the dive shop so participants will collect gear and go onto the boat. Aiming for a 1:30 - 2 departure to Looe Key Reef (one of the seven Iconic Reefs along Florida's Coral Reef)Happy Hour: 5:00 p.m. - After diving/snorkeling at Looe Key Reef, come back to Mote Marine Laboratory to finish the day of learning about the science of coral reef restoration with your favorite cold beverage.By providing your information, you agree to become a member of the American Conservation Coalition (ACC), free of charge.
