Participate in activities and gain knowledge about diagnosis, assessment, and treatment planning in play therapy. Where to start? What does this client need? What is their developmental level? How does the client’s history and culture influence their symptoms and needs? How do you know if there is any progress being made? This course is designed to provide the play therapist with strategies to conduct assessment & treatment planning with clients. Assessment and play therapy interventions will be discussed to look at different diagnoses and family dynamics. Topics include DC: 0-5, case studies, child development, interviewing families, diagnosis, note writing, communication with others, documenting progress, & meeting individual needs. This course is interactive and structured to be inclusive of different learning styles, including role play, reflection, and small group discussions. Objectives: 1. Identify diagnoses that may be appropriate for play therapy. 2. Identify at least 3 play therapy assessment techniques. 3. Describe play therapy goals & objectives of play therapy for a client based on their history, culture, & presenting issues. 4. Describe critical components for case studies in play therapy. 5. Identify components for diagnosis for children ages 0-5. 6. Describe components of play therapy note documentation. 7. Identify play-based assessments to assist in diagnosis. 8. Identify & develop information to use in educating parents and others about play therapy. 9. Identify how to assess and communicate client’s progress in play therapy. 10. Identify techniques to build the therapist’s relationship with children in play therapy. 11. Identify components of note writing for a play therapy session. 12. Identify how to recognize progress in a play therapy session. 13. Develop a weekly assessment to utilize with caregivers and/or client. Registration is limited to 30 participants. 12 hours CE's.
