Description

10 contest finalists from video submissions selected by YTV board members, past contest winners and invited judges The annual YTV Contest is designed to encourage young musicians and dancers and to support their involvement in trad music and dance. In addition to cash prizes, winners are connected with performance opportunities and linkages that would support continued involvement in trad music and dance. It’s a great opportunity to perform, and to meet other young performers. It’s also a great way to get connected to mentors and teachers, and has opened doors for many to some amazing performance and learning opportunities. The top three acts receive cash prizes - $1,000 for 1st, $500 for 2nd and $250 for 3rd. The top Vermont contestant gets a cash prize of at least $250. Submissions for the contest are accepted from the 1st of the year through April 15th. Contestants must be at or under the age of 25 on 5/7/22, the day of the finals. The only exception is for groups: If the average age of group members is 25 or younger, half or more of the group is 25 or younger, and no one is over 30, the group qualifies. Overall 1st place winners from past contests are not eligible to compete, unless they come in a different format (e.g. if they won as a group, they can come as a solo or as part of a different group - if they won as a solo, they can return as part of a group). Young Tradition Vermont board members, past winners of the contest and invited judges vote for the 10 finalists, who are invited to take part in the contest finals on 5/7/22 during YTV Festival. Finalists must be present during the YTV Festival. After the finals, prizes are awarded at the start of the evening showcase concert the same day in Contois Auditorium at City Hall in Burlington. the contest is part of the 2022 YTV Festival May 2-8, 2022 Contois Auditorium in City Hall and other locations in/near downtown Burlington, Vermont All who attend should arrive vaccinated, boosted and masked, and be prepared to share vaccination documentation if requested.
