Design your own take-home Sogetsu Ikebana flower arrangement during a workshop taught by Hiromi Nomura of Belle Flora at TINT Gallery! Ikebana or kadō (the way of the flower) is a Japanese style of flower arrangement. Ikebana is distinguished from other forms of flower arrangement by the positioning of flowers, stems, and other plant materials in relation to the container and the surrounding space. Today, there are an array of styles and variations, both modern and traditional. Sogetsu Ikebana is a style of Japanese floral art that encourages creative expression. In our workshop, we will learn "the basic upright” design, which is the first design taught when students study Sogetsu Ikebana. The workshop covers all necessary basics for beginners. Included in price: 2 hours of instruction with Hiromi Nomura of Belle Flora with an introduction about the history of IkebanaAll materials: Suiban (shallow container), foam core, use of Hasami (branch and flower scissors)Seasonal flowers and branchesTake your design home!There is Free Parking in the neighborhood on Sundays. About Hiromi Nomura Hiromi was born and raised in Tokyo, Japan. She studied European Floral Design in 1990 and received her teaching certification from the NFD (Nippon Flowe Designers) Association in 1994. Soon after, she started teaching at the Chie Flower Design school and the Japan Flower Design College in Tokyo. To broaden her experience, she worked at various floral design shops in Tokyo as well as in Germany. After moving to San Francisco in 1997, she studied Floristry at City College of San Francisco. While there, she participated in the SAIFD design competitions in 1999 and 2000. She was awarded First Overall in 2000, along with five other individual First Awards. She also studied Ikebana, and in 2001, received her teaching certification from the Sogetsu Ikebana Foundation. In 2002, she was inducted into the AIFD (American Institute of Floral Designers), She has been an exhibitor at San Francisco’s “Bouquets to Arts” since 2003, and has been an active floral committee member for the Asian Art Museum since 2003. As an instructor in Ikebana she has attained, Sogetsu Ikebana First Grade “Jonin Somu” rank (2015).
