Description
Georgia voters made history in ‘20 & ‘21 electing Joe Biden, Jon Ossoff & Raphael Warnock. Meet the team that mobilized underserved voters! What work went into turning Georgia Blue during the primaries? What organizations can I support to support our democracy? “Last night in Georgia, Black Americans saved democracy,” was the headline of a Brookings January 2021 story on the landmark elections of Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock to the United States Senate. This happened in no small part thanks to the tireless voter registration and mobilization efforts of organizations like the New Georgia Project (NGP). Since its founding in 2013, NGP has worked to increase the democratic engagement of Georgia’s historically marginalized communities through targeted voter outreach and mobilization. NGP’s leadership has been laser focused on increasing the participation of Black, Latinx, AAPI and young communities across the state. The result has been over 500,000 newly registered voters who turned out in record numbers and made the difference in the 2020 Presidential and 2021 Senate runoff elections. NGP has become the model for grassroots voter engagement efforts around the country. Manny’s is honored to welcome New Georgia Project’s CEO, Nsé Ufot, to San Francisco for a celebratory meet-and-greet and in-depth conversation about turning Georgia blue, her vision for voter outreach and organizing, and what revolutionary democracy in action can look like. This will be a special evening with Nsé and members of the NGP and New Georgia Project Action Fund (NGPAF) team. We’ll kick off with some mingling and dive into a one-on-one conversation with Nsé followed by audience Q&A. This is a free event but you want to make sure you and your friends register so we can save your seat! About the Speaker and Organizations: About Nse Ufot: Nse Ufot is the Chief Executive Officer of the New Georgia Project (NGP) and its affiliate, New Georgia Project Action Fund (NGP AF). Nse leads both organizations with a data-informed approach and a commitment to developing tools that leverage technology to make it easier for every voter to engage in every election. Nse and her team are also developing Georgia’s home-grown talent by training and organizing local activists across the state. She has dedicated her life and career to working on civil, human and workers’ rights issues and leads two organizations whose complementary aim is to strengthen Georgia’s democracy. Under Nse’s leadership, NGP has registered nearly 600K Georgians to vote. About The New Georgia Project: New Georgia Project (NGP) is a nonprofit, nonpartisan civic engagement organization believes in the inherent power of Georgians that have been ignored for too long: Black Georgians, brown Georgians, young people, LGBTQ+ folks, rural Georgians, and others who have the power to move our state forward. We are leading a state-wide, multi-racial, multi-generational, cross-class movement that works all year, every year to build a new Georgia that works for everyone. Our Mission: The mission of New Georgia Project (NGP) is to build power with and increase the civic participation of the New Georgia Majority—Black, Latinx, AAPI, and young Georgians—and other historically marginalized communities through nonpartisan voter registration, organizing, and advocacy on the issues important to our communities. Our Vision: We envision a new Georgia where everyone can freely and equitably participate in our democracy. Where the power of historically marginalized communities is fully recognized and valued. Where all Georgians can live with dignity and thrive. About New Georgia Project Action Fund: NGPAF is on a mission to increase the civic participation of the New Georgia Majority—Black, Latinx, AAPI, and young Georgians—and other historically marginalized communities by building grassroots political power in support of progressive candidates, policies, and issues.
