Through dedicated practice we are always growing with Tai Chi. Come experience this internal art and transform your life. TAIJI/TAI CHIWe use Taiji/Tai Chi to cultivate ourselves and learn to develop and understand feeling in our bodies, and how to integrate that into movement. Practice necessitates and promotes a relaxed and focused mind and emotional state. Mindfulness! The martial art, internal art and philosophy of Taiji is vast, and our classes will give participants an introduction to the art that is easy to follow. Wudang Sanfeng Pai Taiji Chuan is made up of three main systems: Taiji/Tai Chi, Bagua Zhang, and Xing Yi. Our training mainly focuses on the Tai Chi system and includes: Qigong (Chikung) Form Training (Taolu)Traditional StretchesDrills & Exercises (Ji ben gong) WHAT TO EXPECTTHE CLASSThrough the month of May we will focus on the following: Basic exercises (ji ben gong) Ba Duan Jin QigongBa Duan Jin Qigong also known as "8 Pieces of Brocade" or "8 Treasures" Ba Duan Jin/Baduanjin as a whole is broken down into eight separate exercises, each focusing on a different physical area and qi meridian. Baduanjin traditionally contains both a standing and seated set of eight postures each. In the modern era, the standing version is by far the most widely practiced and it is the set we will be doing. There are many variations of Baduan Jin and I will be teaching you the version taught to me by Master Yuan Xiu Gang in 2017. The postures exercise the waist area, focusing on the kidneys and spleen, some are to especially stimulate the stomach and help regulate functions of the heart and lungs, while other postures are aimed at increasing general vitality and muscular strength. The Eight Section Brocade is one of scores of exercise sets in the large Chi Kung (Qigong) family. "Ch'i" or "Qi" is the Chinese word for breath, energy, vital force, air, or life power. The Sanskrit word 'Prana' and the Japanese word 'Ki' are very similar in meaning to 'Qi.' The word "Kung" or "Gong" implies a regular, systematic, intense, long term, and dedicated training regiment. Therefore, "Ch'i Kung" or "Qigong" is a long term training program to circulate, cultivate, regulate, enhance, and guide vital internal energies to achieve health, vitality, and spiritual awareness. The physical level of classes are moderate. Classes are open to all levels of Tai Chi practitioners and for those who have no experience. Movements can always be adjusted to your ability level. You are urged to be aware of your physical abilities and by joining the course you assume full responsibility of your personal health. This class is recommended for adults 18 years and older. Note: If you are wearing personal protective equipment please be mindful that parts of Taiji and qigong may require deep breathing, therefore a face mask may pose challenges.
