Please join the SECC for "A Night at the Theatre" for night of fun, fundraising and a celebration of our 70th birthday! Please join the South East Chicago Commission for "A Night at the Theatre" for night of fun, fundraising and celebration of the SECC's 70th birthday! Funds raised will go to to support our Neighborhood Enhancement beautification projects for Hyde Park, Kenwood, Oakland, Washington Park and Woodlawn communities. The night begins at 5:30 pm on Friday May 13th, 2022 with a lovely reception at the NEW Southspace Creative. 5:30PM Reception at Southspace Creative (1109 E. 55th St.)7:30PM Opening Night Performance at Court Theatre (5535 S. Ellis Ave)Parking: There is FREE parking in the parking structure located at E. 55th St and S. Ellis Ave. The parking structure is conveniently located within a 1/2 block walk to both the reception and the theater. Two Trains Running explores Black identity in the 1960s with passion and humor, demonstrating why August Wilson is one of America’s most essential voices. With his singular point of view, Resident Artist Ron OJ Parson directs the penultimate play set amidst the Civil Rights Movement, Memphis Lee’s restaurant is slated for demolition. While Memphis fights to sell his diner for a fair price, the rest of the restaurant’s regulars search for work, love, and justice as their neighborhood continues to change in unpredictable ways. Every donation is greatly appreciated, regardless of size. Proceeds from this event support the SECC's Neighborhood Enhancement Grant program. The Neighborhood Enhancement Grant Program is an initiative administered by the SECC and awards grants of up to $5,000 each to neighborhood organizations to support beautification projects that enhance the quality of life in our neighborhoods and allows us to work together as community partners for the improvement of all our areas. The program is designed to enhance the physical attractiveness of our five footprint communities. Since 1999, we have granted nearly $1.0 million dollars in beautification funds to over 200 unique and impactful projects. Thank you for your support! Tickets are non-refundable. The South East Chicago Commission (SECC) is a non-profit organization pursuant to Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code.
