What makes a place home? What do we owe to the place that raised us? This month’s theme will deal with the importance of feeling at home. This topic will deal with the importance of feeling at home and belonging in a place, what creates the possibility of that feeling, and what our place demands from us in return. Philip Heisterkamp, a Jefferson resident and owner of Greater Life Health and Wellness, will discuss what it was like growing up in Jefferson and how his perspective might have changed after moving back to the area. Participating in Jefferson events, such as the Bell Tower Festival, allow Philip to show his dedication to the community he calls home. Dr. Susan Laehn is an Adjunct Professor of Political Science at Iowa State University. Suan has a different perspective since she was not raised in Jefferson, but she now calls it home.
