Learn the basics of letterpress printing in this 2-hour workshop.
In this 2-hour, Type Specimen Workshop participants will be introduced to the historic craft of letterpress printing at Montana State University’s studio. Housing over 400 cases of type MSU has an extensive collection of historical types with three vintage printing presses. In this workshop, participants will typeset lead type to create a type specimen page and then print on a 1948 Vandercook No4 Printing Press. Participants will take home a copy of their specimen pages for their keepsake that they will have typeset and printed themselves. This workshop is a hands-on experience, and letterpress printing is a technical trade that takes physical work, your printed pages will truly be a result of your own time, effort, and hands-on involvement.
