Description

Autism in South Phoenix! According to recent figures from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in 44 children in Arizona is diagnosed yearly with Autism. Providing specialized training and education for these children is imperative for the growth of the future workforce of Metro Phoenix. With Science Prep Academy’s neurodivergent students in mind as they transition to adulthood, NERC’s mission is to remove barriers to higher education and foster a neurodivergent employment pipeline in Arizona. “Our vision in launching the Neurodiversity Education Research Center is to create an environment where neurodivergent individuals, including those with autism, are viewed as assets to the workforce, especially STEM-related industries,” said Mims M.Ed. “These individuals can have fulfilling careers, make significant contributions to their companies, and find success in life with the help of effective, supportive networks.” NERC collaborates with other education and workforce institutions to share best practices. NERC is excited to host our first Neurodiversity Luncheon. The luncheon is a free community event, in conjunction with The Salvation Army Kroc Center, to engage in a discussion around ensuring quality education, healthcare, and employment opportunities for autistic students. This year we will discuss “Autism in South Phoenix.” We will highlight our core programs, impact, and research initiatives. *There is no fee to attend, but registration is required. We thank you for your generous donations that support our impactful programs and events!
