This free in-person event is at our new store at The Mark, 117 S. Pineapple. There is the option of an $8 ticket to help defray the cost of the event. Registration will end 1 hour before the event scheduled time.About Renée James Gilmore: Renée James Gilmore is the executive producer and host of ABC7’s Empowering Voices. The public affairs television program explores issues of interest to communities of people who are underrepresented, marginalized, and whose concerns are nearly invisible to privileged Americans. Social justice and economic empowerment are frequent themes on her show and many of the guest panelists risk reprisals for speaking truth to power. She regularly guest-hosts Suncoast View and news editions of Empowering Voices. Renée is also a consultant. In 2010, she founded the Saja Group, LLC and is on a mission to help businesses benefit from cultural diversity. A fourth generation Sarasotan, Renée began her career as a journalist at ABC7-WWSB when the station was surrounded by cow pastures and vegetable fields. She transitioned from broadcasting to leading national multibillion-dollar business initiatives after earning an MBA at Clark Atlanta University. Collaborations she led on behalf of public policy makers still operate today and are credited with expanding access to business growth, employment and educational opportunities for various segments of Americans. The U.S. Department of Labor has recognized her for achievements in capacity building and innovative programming. She holds White House accolades for changing the organizational culture at several government agencies.
