Farmingdale Village Gives Coronavirus Update

FARMINGDALE, NY — Farmingdale Village provided an update on the new coronavirus Wednesday evening, ranging from event cancellations to urging residents to support local businesses as safely as possible. All public meetings at Village Hall are canceled until further notice, including Board of Trustees and the Planning and Zoning Board. Village-sponsored community events are also canceled or postponed until further notice. The Village also urged support of small businesses, many of which are struggling after restaurants, bars, gyms, etc. were mandated by New York State to close to in-store service in a bid to stem the spread of COVID-19. Gov. Andrew Cuomo made the announcement Monday, and the closures are indefinite. Many merchants throughout Farmingdale are open for takeout, curbside pickup and delivery, the Village said. Several stores are open to the public, but hours vary. Residents should call or check the business' social media or website for details. The Village compiled a list of all Farmingdale Village restaurants and bars and what they're doing during the coronavirus. Click the hyperlink for a PDF. It could be assisting a neighbor, shopping for a senior or family member or donating within the community. The Village is collecting non-perishable food donations for the needy, which can be dropped off and placed in the food pantry box outside the entrance to Village Hall from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. St. Kilian's Social Ministry is collecting donations and is open for assistance and donations Tuesdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to noon. Donations can be brought to the entrance door facing Elizabeth Street at 140 Elizabeth St. Residents are asked to not bring donations to the Outreach building outside of those times or to the door facing Conklin Street, as it will be used for assistance only. There are wooden bins in the back of the church available for donations if you can't get to the ministry at those times. The Farmingdale School District sent a memo regarding meals for students who receive free or reduced meals that can be picked up at three locations on weekdays: Howitt Middle School's west building main entrance from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., Saltzman East Memorial School's main entrance parking lot from 8 to 9 a.m. and Bethesda Junior Academy in Amityville in the parking lot from 8 to 9 a.m. Student ID is required to pick-up the meals. There are 372 confirmed cases of the new coronavirus and three deaths in Nassau County as of Thursday morning.
