Hello my friends. Here's some news to help you get your day going. I'm Merlin Douglass, guest curator, and it's good to see you here today. First, today's weather: Partly cloudy; might have to break out that sunscreen High: 69 Low: 39 Here are the top stories in Beaverton today: Cornel Giurculete, 45, was convicted on Tuesday of several accounts of child sexual abuse in Washington County. Giurculete gave a girl under the age of 10 alcohol, used marijuana around her and touched her inappropriately, according to court documents. He will remain in custody until his sentencing on June 14. (KOIN) Aloha High School parents were relieved to learn that the lockdown that happened Wednesday morning was just a glitch and not a result of actual danger. When the school went into lockdown at 10 A.M., educators and administrators followed standard procedures of locking classrooms, turning off lights and moving students to the most secure areas of the classrooms, but the cautions, fortunately, proved unnecessary. The alarm went out as a result of an undetermined phone glitch, according to the principal and is still being investigated. (KATU) Ed and Adam Tonkin have made a major investment in The Hops, Hillsboro's Single-A baseball team. The field in which The Hops play is already named after the Tonkin family. The dollar value of the investment is not known, but it places them as the second-largest holders of franchise shares. (KGW) Jacob Wismer Elementary School's 5th graders in the Earth Connections Club have challenged their school to a week-long "Waste Less" challenge for Earth day. The students took the environmental lessons they had learned and shared them with other classes through presentations, announcements and demonstrations.
