BETHPAGE, NY — A person was hit by a train on tracks near Bethpage, and rail service on the Long Island Railroad's Ronkonkoma Branch was suspended for about 45 minutes. Rail service was suspended around 2:45 p.m. Wednesday between Hicksville and Ronkonkoma due to a trespasser on the tracks who was hit by a train, the LIRR tweeted.
"We suggest you use alternate branches, such as the Port Jefferson Branch or the Babylon Branch, if possible," the railroad said.
Westbound trains terminated at Farmingdale and both police and paramedics were sent to the tracks.
Service on the Ronkonkoma Branch was restored around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, the railroad said. Customers can expect residual delays of about 15 to 20 minutes. Cancellations were also possible as trains ran on just one of two tracks through Bethpage.
