2-Alarm Fire At Newton Home Near Mass Pike

NEWTON, MA — No one was injured in a two-alarm fire on Cherry Street near the Mass Pike Thursday afternoon, according to Lt. Michael Bianchi of the Newton Fire Department. Shortly before noon someone called 911 to report a house fire at 346 Cherry St., when they arrived crews found heavy smoke pouring from the second floor and roof, Bianchi said. "The companies made a quick aggressive attack on the fire, by stretching multiple lines into the residence," he said. By 12:15 p.m. the main fire was out, Bianchi said. The two family home on Cherry Street was built in 1905 and was last assessed as being worth nearly $750,000, according to city data. It's unclear how many people are displaced.
