BETHPAGE, NY — Two Hogansburg, New York, men were arrested Wednesday night in Bethpage after police said they found them in a vehicle with drugs. One of the men attacked and injured two officers, police said. Officers stopped a gray 2006 Chevrolet pickup truck for a defective license plate light around 10:50 p.m., police said. The officers smelled marijuana and removed Jonathan M. Burwell, 30, and Brian Jacobs, 33, from the truck, police said. Burwell then assaulted and injured two officers, police said. A substance believed to be heroin was found in Burwell's pants pocket, police said. Jacobs had additional controlled substances, police said. More drugs were found in the truck, police said. (Credit: Nassau County Police Department) Jacobs was charged with four counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and was released on an appearance ticket. Burwell was charged with second-degree assault, second-degree obstructing governmental administration, resisting arrest, two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, and second-degree unlawful possession of marijuana. He will be arraigned when medically practical. Police said the arrests were part of Operation Natalie, a Nassau County police program targeting opioids.
