FARMINGDALE, NY – A 31-year-old man was arrested after a crash that sent a police officer to the hospital early Sunday, Nassau police said. The officer was on DWI patrol in an unmarked patrol vehicle driving north on Main Street at Conklin Street in Farmingdale shortly after 2 a.m., police said. The officer was making a left turn onto Conklin Street when his vehicle was struck by a 2006 Mini Cooper traveling south on Main Street through the intersection, police said. The officer suffered substantial pain to his neck, back and right knee and was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and treatment, police said. Two other police officers were on a separate assignment on the corner of Main Street and Conklin Street at the time of the crash, police said. The driver of the Mini Cooper, Miles Castro, of East Meadow, exited his vehicle and as he spoke to the officers, he exhibited signs of intoxication and was placed under arrest without incident, police said. Miles Castro was charged with charged DWI-previous conviction and third degree assault. He will be arraigned on Sunday in Mineola.
