NEWTON, MA — Overnight Newton turned into a winter wonderland. Department of Public Works crews were out overnight working to treat the roadways and keep the snow at bay and will be working beyond the last snowflake. Thursday morning there were more people walking their dogs than drivers, as people, already working from home obeyed the mayor's call to stay off the roads. According to the National Weather Service, Boston broke its record snowfall for Dec. 17. Logan Airport reported 16 inches of snow as of 7 p.m. Thursday. And Waltham, Newton and Brookline all reported more than a foot of the white stuff. Because the sidewalks were covered in about a foot of snow, they took to the streets, like the intrepid Betsy Davidow: Jenna Fisher/Patch Jenna Fisher/Patch Jenna Fisher/Patch Jenna Fisher/Patch Jenna Fisher/Patch Jenna Fisher/Patch Jenna Fisher/Patch [Snowfall Records] Already Boston & Providence have broken their records for Dec 17th snowfall! This doesn't include what fell late yesterday, & totals will be updated later. We'll see how Worcester and Hartford shake out once we get new observations early this afternoon. pic.twitter.com/AVe1sBfbpq— NWS Boston (@NWSBoston) December 17, 2020 Thanks to all those who sent us photos of Newton in the snow storm! Next time we get a storm, send me an email and tell me a bit about what's in the photo, let me know who took the photo, when it was taken; and that you give permission for Patch to use it: [email protected].
