Press release from the Town of Needham: June 25, 2020 June 25, 2020 – The Town of Needham and Needham Public Health today provided the following update regarding COVID-19. State DPH COVID-19 Numbers The Massachusetts Department of Public Health reports the number of positive cases and deaths daily on the state's COVID-19 dashboard here. Town-specific case numbers are published by the state every Wednesday on the COVID-19 Weekly Public Health Report. 329 Needham cases (6/24/2020) 76 Coronavirus deaths in Needham (6/22/20) Governor, Education Officials Release Back to School Guidance for the Fall Governor Baker today, along with education and medical professionals, released the guidelines that schools must follow in order to bring children back to the classroom this fall. Needham Public School students in grades 1-12 are scheduled to return to school September 2, 2020. You can read the state's Return to School Guidance here. Free Summer Parking in Needham The Select Board this week voted to allow for free 2-hour parking in Needham this summer to help support local businesses. Beginning Monday, June 29th, all parking meters will be free until Tuesday, September 8th. Needham Public Schools Free Meals Program to Continue Through the Summer With New Pickup Days The Needham Public School's Successful Free Meals Program will continue through the summer. To date, NPS has distributed over 47,000 meals to children in Needham. Beginning July 2nd, meal bags will be distributed on Mondays and Thursdays instead of Tuesdays and Fridays. The drive-through format will continue at the High Rock School from 11:00 – 1:00. On each of those two days, a bag will be given for each child in the family, which contains breakfast and lunch meals for every day (including weekend days) until the next service day. On Monday, each student meal bag will include 3 breakfasts and 3 lunches. On Thursday, each student meal bag will include 4 breakfasts and 4 lunches. Cars enter the drive-through loop on Linden Street and proceed to the meal distribution tent in the first small parking lot. Needham Exchange Club Hosting 4th of July House Decorating Contest While COVID-19 has put a pause on Needham's annual 4th of July Fireworks, the Needham Exchange Club is encouraging the community to celebrate the holiday with a House Decorating Contest. Show your patriotism and decorate you house for our National Holiday. To be considered, send a photo of your home via email your name and address to [email protected] by 10:00 PM on July 3rd. FDA Cautions Public to Avoid Certain Hand Sanitizer The FDA is advising consumers not to use any hand sanitizer manufactured by Eskbiochem, due to the potential presence of methanol (wood alcohol), a substance that can be toxic when absorbed through the skin or ingested. Methanol is not an acceptable ingredient for hand sanitizers and should not be used due to its toxic effects.
