Description
NEEDHAM, MA — MassDOT and Newton/Needham officials broke ground on the Needham/Newton Corridor Roadway Reconstruction Project.
This $28.5 million project will provide improvements along the Highland Avenue/Needham Street/Winchester Street Corridor from Webster Street in Needham to Route 9 in Newton. Improvements will include better pedestrian and bicycle safety and accessibility. Work will also include new, separated and raised bicycle facilities behind the curb line next to the sidewalk along with bicycle signalization.
The current corridor carries 28,000 vehicles per day. It features trail connections and includes an historic, nationally registered, stone arch bridge over the Charles River, built in 1875.
The project is set to end in fall 2023.
