During the meeting Gulshan Ibrahim and Ranjit Samantaray from Google will discuss about "Using Machine Learning to Estimate Duration and Cost More Accurately". Description: Google Fiber deployments across 11+ metros rely on construction projects executed by contractors. There are multiple build models e.g. Last mile construction involves deploying fiber inside a building, mall, apartments etc and Outside Plant construction involves deployment of Fiber Optic cables throughout the city via underground or aerial construction. Each type of project goes through phases like survey, design, permits, construction, testing, validation etc. Some of these activities can happen in parallel whereas others are sequential. Activities have durations ranging from a few days to a few weeks. At the beginning of each project Googlers estimate the duration of such activities based on past projects and past experiences. We now have historical data from the past several years that includes estimated durations and actual durations upon completion. What if instead of relying on one or two individuals in a city and their past experiences, we could use this historical data from all the metros and come up with a model that can help estimate the duration of such projects more accurately.
