NEEDHAM, MA — Needham is heeding the advice of the Secretary of the Commonwealth and upping its ballot drop box security. At the advice of the Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin's office, the town plans on emptying and locking ballot boxes overnight on Halloween as state officials worry about possible Halloween pranks targeting boxes. The suggestion comes after a Boston ballot box was set on fire on Sunday. Needham's Red Ballot Drop Box in Needham will be locked at 5 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday. The box will be unlocked for deposit of ballots Saturday and Sunday morning by 8:30 am.
