Longbrook Avenue Closed In Stratford, Possibly For A Month

STRATFORD, CT — Longbrook Avenue is closed for construction at the railroad bridge, and will stay that way for several weeks, according to a notice from town and federal officials. The closure began Monday. The road will be closed 24/7 until the work is completed. The contractor estimates the project will take two to four weeks. "Total closure of this portion of Longbrook Avenue is necessary to allow for the connection of the new Haul Road ... on the former Contract Plating property to Longbrook Avenue," the notice said. The new road is being built to facilitate cleanup of the Raymark Superfund Site and will be the primary route for moving Raymark waste to the former ball field for consolidation and capping. Construction of the road will prevent hundreds of trucks from having to travel further up Longbrook Avenue and through the Patterson Avenue neighborhood. The connection requires the relocation of telephone poles and significant grading. A flashing light will also be installed at the railroad bridge to warn of turning trucks.
