STRATFORD, CT — Two semitrailers were involved in an accident Wednesday on Interstate 95 that included a fire and a diesel leak. Emergency personnel responded just after 6:30 a.m. to the scene at Exit 32 of northbound I-95, according to a news release from Stratford Fire Marshal Robert Daniel. Upon arrival, they found one of the trucks in the breakdown lane with a ruptured tank leaking diesel fuel. About 75 yards away, the cab of the second truck — which was transporting beer — was on fire. Firefighters used two hose lines and an aerial ladder to bring the blaze under control in about 20 minutes. They also addressed the fuel leak, about which state environmental officials were notified. No one was injured in the incident. The accident backed up traffic for hours. The northbound interstate was congested for about 5 miles into the afternoon, with the right and center lanes closed, according to the Connecticut Department of Transportation. By late afternoon, the roads were open.
