STRATFORD, CT — More Stratford schools are switching to online-only learning amid coronavirus concerns, according to officials. The latest changes, disclosed Wednesday, affect multiple elementary schools and come during a week when the school district was beginning to transition many of its younger students to in-classroom learning four days a week. Eli Whitney Elementary School, which reported two presumptive virus cases, will move to full-time remote learning through Nov. 30, as will all fifth-grade classes at Second Hill Lane Elementary School, according to a message from the district to parents and staff. Second Hill Lane saw two new cases Wednesday, one involving a school community member who was working remotely and the other affecting a person who had not been in the school since Nov. 10. The district's ALPHA Program is switching to full-time distance learning Thursday and Friday due to a staffing shortage, the message said. Bunnell and Stratford high schools and Johnson House and Nichols elementary schools are already operating on an online-only learning schedule due to the effects of the virus. In addition to the building closures, the district Wednesday reported one positive case each at Lordship Elementary School and Stratford High School. District-wide as of early Thursday, 47 students and 11 staff members were in isolation with the virus, and 768 students and staffers were quarantined, according to the district dashboard, which reflects the most current available numbers.
