The attack on the British Royal Navy's HMS Gaspee is celebrated in Rhode Island as the spark that ignited the American Revolution! Join Secretary of State Nellie M. Gorbea and the Rhode Island State Archives for the opening of their new exhibition, Gaspee: The Spark that Ignited the American Revolution. This exhibit uses letters, testimonies, maps, and other primary source documents to tell the complex story surrounding the burning of the Gaspee in Narragansett Bay. The reception will be on Wednesday, May 4, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the State Archives' new location at 33 Broad Street, Providence. Gaspee: The Spark That Ignited the American Revolution is on view at the State Archives through Friday, July 8. Members of the public are encouraged to visit Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Teachers and educators can arrange field trips for their students by emailing [email protected].
