Description

GRDC will provide a free shuttle to and from the Board of Zoning appeals for advocates who oppose an asphalt plant locating near us! ASI JBE Holdings proposes to establish an asphalt mill at Southfield and I-96. We oppose this plan because heavy industrial uses like asphalt mills should not be located in our Detroit neighborhood or anybody’s neighborhood. With funding from Freshwater Future, the Grandmont Rosedale Development Corporation is organizing a free shuttle to neighborhood advocates who oppose the plant locating near us. We will meet at the Community House at 18445 Scarsdale and travel together on a shuttle to the Board of Zoning Appeals to make our voices heard. Note: We have a limited number of seats on the shuttle (43 seats). Please only register if you will be able to attend, to ensure we maximize every seat. Participants should expect to be part of a large picketing effort, and picket signs are welcome! Participants will also need to sign a waiver, provided on site, releasing NRPCA of any liabilities while leaving your car in their parking lot. Participants should also have some flexibility in timing, as the Board of Zoning Appeals can changing their hearing date and times on short notice. Please join us in the cause! Consider these concerns: • deterioration of neighborhood quality of life due to increased traffic, exhaust emissions • impact on health from increased air pollution and impact on quality of life from noise pollution, and odors • long term impact on property values of nearby neighborhood • Detroit population already has significant rates of respiratory illness and asthma, with senior and young populations particularly vulnerable. • Permitting this plant would be another instance of environmental racial injustice in Detroit
