Pair Strike 2 Cars, Flee Cops In Stolen Porsche: Stratford PD

STRATFORD, CT — A pair of local men in a stolen Porsche struck two cars while leading Stratford police on a chase out of town, according to law enforcement. Accused in the incident are Christopher Mulkern, 21, of Stratford, and Edwin Cordero Jr., 19, also of Stratford, police said. The encounter began Wednesday, after officers saw a stolen 2018 Porsche Panamera traveling on Bruce Avenue, according to a police news release. The Porsche was stopped at a red light at Bruce and Boston avenues, but when the driver — Mulkern — discovered police cars behind him, he hit the vehicle in front of him, forcing it to the side of the road, according to the news release. Mulkern then drove into the intersection, striking a car on Boston Avenue, police said. Stratford firefighters responded to the crossing Wednesday night and reported minor injuries. Despite heavy damage to the Porsche, Mulkern continued into Bridgeport, entered southbound Interstate 95 and left the highway at Exit 27, as police followed with lights flashing and sirens blaring, according to the news release. Mulkern and Cordero abandoned the Porsche at Park Avenue and Gregory Street, and tried to drive away in another stolen car, a 2014 Audi A4 parked on Gregory Street, police said. The Porsche had been stolen from Westport and the Audi was missing from Old Saybrook, according to the news release. Police also found 14 key fobs to various cars, as well as several cellphones and credit cards, all of which are suspected to be stolen, police said. Mulkern and Cordero were arrested about 8 p.m. Wednesday, according to police. Both men are set to appear in court Jan. 5, police said. Mulkern, who had four active arrest warrants, is charged with evading responsibility for physical injury, first-degree larceny, plate theft, engaging police in pursuit, interfering with an officer, making or possessing a burglar's tools, first-degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving, and driving without a license, as well as violation of probation, failure to appear and driving with a suspended or revoked registration or license, police said. Cordero was charged with making or possessing a burglar's tools, conspiracy to commit first-degree larceny and interfering with an officer, according to police.
