WAUKESHA, WI — Waukesha police arrested a person after officers helped sheriff's deputies with a chase that started outside city limits and stopped in the City of Waukesha on Thursday, Waukesha Police Department logs showed. Officers had to use stop sticks and saw the driver go speeds above 90 mph, police said. "We assisted the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department on a pursuit they initiated outside the City of Waukesha limits," Waukesha police captain Dan Baumann told Patch. The car chase led into the city and stopped at Madison Street and W. Saint Paul Avenue, police logs showed. The chase entered the city from E. North Street and Barstow Street around 11:16 p.m., police logs showed. It's not clear where or how the chase started, and police weren't able to give details. Police saw the car take Buena Vista Avenue to Bluemound Road in Pewaukee, exceeding speeds of 90 mph at Bluemound Road, police logs showed. The car snaked back towards E. Moreland Road, where police threw stop sticks in front of the car. It's not clear if the sticks worked. The car eventually stopped at a construction site on Madison Street and W. Saint Paul Avenue around 11:22 p.m., where the car was "pitted" against an excavator, police logs showed. Pitting refers to a "pursuit intervention technique" that officers use to fishtail fleeing vehicles. Squad cars boxed the car in and told the driver to get out. The driver refused at first, but then got out of the car, and police shot them with a less-than-lethal pepper ball gun around 11:37, police logs showed. The person fought with police, and one officer said the driver bit them, according to police logs. Police shot the driver again in the upper shoulder with the pepper ball gun and eventually arrested them, police said. An ambulance from the Waukesha Fire Department arrived and took the driver to a local hospital.
