Description

On Tuesday, April 5, children from P.S. 236 in Mill Basin, Brooklyn, made a heartfelt donation of a variety of gifts to residents in the Memory Care Unit at Triboro Center on Teller Avenue in the Bronx. The elementary school students donated a total of seven baby dolls for the Unit's doll program, two fidget blankets, two bubble poppers, and three wooden puzzles. [Left to Right: Donation Team Including Director of Social Services Samantha Golembo, Memory Care Unit Recreation Leader Dariana Marte and Stephanie Minier, Assistant Director of Recreation] It's all part of an exciting new educational partnership with P.S. 236 and this 405-bed skilled nursing home, a Centers Health Care facility. It's the school's way to have the students receive an education about what it is to "pay it forward" towards the geriatric population. Recreation Director Rose Ferreira at Triboro Center is planning to build a pen pal program with these students sometime later this year. "These kids are simply adorable and for them to give like this, says so much about the love for the elderly, especially for those who are sadly suffering from dementia," said Ferreira. "After this, doing a pen pal program with these students will hopefully continue this genuine relationship."
