Press release from the City of San Antonio: Thursday, April 21, 2022 CONTACT: Lisa Norwood, 210.207.6665 [email protected] SAN ANTONIO (April 21, 2022) – It's a boy….and a girl…and a boy….and another girl! In fact, there are so many babies starting to come into San Antonio Animal Care Services (SAACS) that the shelter is hosting a community event to encourage fostering. The SAACS (Bottle) Baby Shower will take place Saturday, April 23 from 9am to 11am at the shelter located at 4710 State Highway 151. More than 62 hundred puppies and kittens came into the shelter last year alone and this weekend's event is aimed at urging the community to provide a shelter without walls through fostering. In addition to getting free and low-cost spay-neuter information, attendees will meet with shelter placement staff to discuss ways to identify truly orphaned puppies and kittens. Participants will learn how to feed and care for the youngest pets SAACS needs foster care for. Often referred to as bottle babies, these orphans are completely dependent on their human foster parents for feeding until they are roughly 4 to 6 weeks old. Attendees can RSVP for the event on the SAACS Facebook page @SanAntonioACS. Would-be fosters who can't make Saturday's event can still lend a hand by signing up at www.saacs.info/orphanfoster. There's also a special Amazon wish list for animal lovers who want to help orphaned pets at www.saacs.info/orphanwishlist. Animal Care Services provides all supplies and veterinary care for pets in the shelter foster program. Local residents are especially encouraged to help during litter season when newborn and young dogs and cats are brought into the shelter daily.
