Mahwah Wildfire Burns 40 Acres, Contained On Ramapo Mountain

MAHWAH, NJ — A wildfire, estimated to now be about 40 acres, was contained on the Ramapo Mountains. Seventy-five percent of the wildfire was contained on Thursday by firefighting crews, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service A2 Firefighter's Association. The crew are set to return on Friday morning, the firefighter's association said. U.S. Fish & Wildlife and NJFFS firefighters remained on scene of the wildfire north of Camp Glen Gray in Mahwah until 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon. The brush fire broke out on Bear Swamp Road near Camp Yaw Paw on Thursday, according to Rockland Fires. The crews built and reinforced fire containment lines. Overflights were also performed on Thursday to see how far the fire had progressed. No injuries or damaged structures have been reported, the NJFFS A2 Firefighter's Association said.
