Press release from TriCounty Area Chamber of Commerce: April 21, 2022 Pottstown, PA –The TriCounty Area Chamber of Commerce (TCACC) held a Membership Breakfast, featuring authors Madeleine Dean and Harry Cunnane who discussed their book "Under Our Roof" as well as dealing with substance use in the workplace, on Wednesday, April 20th. The TCACC event was held at Brookside Country Club, in Pottstown, which offered Chamber Members breakfast and an opportunity for networking. Dean and Cunnane answered panel questions from TCACC President Eileen Dautrich. While telling about their personal story of Harry's addiction and how it affected their family, they explained that the book's aim was to help others overcome the shame and stigma of this disease, and open up and expand conversations regarding this illness. Cunnane, the Regional Vice President of Caron's Greater Washington DC region, noted that "40 million people have a substance use disorder, and 20 million are in recovery at this time." He pointed out that 75 percent of them do recover. Congresswoman Dean, who added ending the opioid epidemic into her campaign, cited that 270 people die from an overdose daily. To the 70 Chamber Members at the breakfast, Cunnane urged them to put workplace programs in place for those suffering from addictions. He also said to know what treatment options and support are included in your company's insurance plan to be prepared if the need should arise. He also encouraged company leaders to set up a process to help your workers get treatment as well as steps for them to re-enter the workplace. The TCACC event was sponsored by: Constellation; Dana Incorporated; Pottstown Hospital Tower Health; Precision Polymer Products, Inc.; Schultz Technology; Tompkins VIST Bank; and The Victory Bank. This Membership Breakfast is one of five breakfasts, where TCACC features nine different speakers. The 9 in 5 plan stems from TCACC's celebration of 95 years as a Chamber and includes programs that are 95 minutes in length. These events are great networking opportunities for local businesses to meet with other business owners in the tri-county area. The next Membership Breakfast will be held on Thursday, June 9th.
