MURRIETA, CA — Thanks to a $2.4 million grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Murrieta Innovation Center will be getting a major upgrade, officials announced. The investment is expected to bolster business growth and create high-paying jobs in the area through supporting entrepreneurs in the life sciences with a focus on biotech, medtech and health tech. "California's thriving life sciences industry is a source of pride and an important economic driver in hubs throughout the state," Gov. Gavin Newsom said. "This grant for Murrieta will support pioneering startups and entrepreneurs in the region, fostering innovation and propelling job growth well into the future." The city and Impact SWRC also announced $607,478 in local funds. The funding will allow the construction of the second wet lab in Riverside County and the first in the Southwest Riverside County area. The money will also fund a cleanroom, a new dry lab and the renovation of existing office and conference spaces to the center. "The Murrieta Innovation Center has been successful in showing that Southwest Riverside County is home to many high concept, investable startups with an entrepreneurial culture and capable innovators. These life science companies will immensely benefit from the new resources that will be made available by this grant."
