Here are the top three stories in Jackson today: In celebration of Earth Day, Keep Mississippi Beautiful has planted wildflowers along the High Street and Jefferson Street corridor. The property the flowers were planted on is owned by the Department of Agriculture. According to Keep Mississippi Beautiful's Executive Director Sarah Kountouris, wildflowers aren't just beautiful — they're also great pollinators, bringing about butterflies and supporting the growth of local produce. (WLBT)Jackson Preparatory School broke ground on a new elementary school on Thursday. The school will reportedly open itself to fifth-grade students for the 2022-23 school year with the rest of the grades opening the next year. The new facility will be located on the Jackson Prep campus with school tuition set at $9,750. (WJTV)Jackson State University is the only public university in Mississippi that will not be receiving a tuition hike this next school year. The tuition increases statewide were approved by the Institution of Higher Learning Board of Trustees at a meeting on Thursday. The average cost of in-state tuition at Mississippi public universities will increase by $177. The university recently signed an agreement to support associate degree graduates from the community college.
