EAST MEADOW, NY — The Jovia Long Island Marathon has been delayed to October on an order from Nassau County, due to the new coronavirus. There will also no longer be a full marathon. The announcement came yesterday. The race was originally scheduled for May 1 through 3, but has now been delayed to Oct. 2 through 4. In addition to the delay, the race will no longer have a full, 26.2-mile marathon, but will instead have a 22.4-mile challenge race — a 5K that Friday, a 10K on Saturday and a 13.1-mile half marathon on Sunday. Anyone entered into the marathon will automatically have their registration transferred to the new race. Because the full marathon is canceled, there will also be no 35.5-mile challenge race, organizers said. There will be no refunds for entrance fees, since the marathon is still happening, organizers said. Those who can't make the new dates can defer their entry to 2021, or participate in a "virtual" race on their own. You can get more details about the changes to the race here.
