NUMC Workers Get Nearly 2,000 Thank Yous From Nassau Residents

EAST MEADOW, NY — As hospitals feel the strain of the coronavirus pandemic, medical professionals are taking the center stage. Doctors, nurses, EMTs and other healthcare workers are working tirelessly to fight the virus. Earlier this month, Nassau County Legislator John Ferretti spearheaded a program to send "Letters to Our Heroes" to the brave medical professionals, public safety, correction officers and first responders that are working to keep us healthy and stop this virus. He encouraged residents around the county to send letters, drawings and emails to his office thanking healthcare workers for all they do. On April 15, Ferretti joined with CSEA Regional President Jerry Laricchuita, CSEA Local 830 President Ron Gurrieri and hospital officials to deliver hundreds of letters to healthcare workers, doctors, nurses and EMTs at Nassau University Medical Center. "I was proud to deliver close to 2,000 letters I received as part of my 'Letters to Our Heroes' drive today, to the doctors, nurses and healthcare professionals at Nassau University Medical Center," Ferretti said. "NUMC is an often-overlooked hospital that serves some of our most vulnerable here in Nassau County. Thank you to everyone from across the county that participated, and thank you to the doctors, nurses, healthcare workers, first responders, and corrections officers on the front lines keeping Nassau safe during the COVID-19 outbreak." Ferretti said he plans to deliver more letters to other healthcare workers, first responders and correction officers.
