I was getting gas and you pulled up, got out of your car and walked past. I didn't instantly put it together, but I recognized the powerful feeling that overtook me - I was mesmerized. Memories that formed decades ago were brought to the fore and I felt like a clumsy, foolish teenager again. Even if I wanted to say hi, I don't think anything would've come out. It was the most profound deja vu because I knew I had experienced it all before when I looked into those green eyes a little more than 30 years ago. We never talked much back then and I regret that. Mostly because the few times we met, our time was short, in secret and rushed...even though it didn't remain a secret. That really put a damper on things between us. I often think of you and wonder what would have happened if I pursued you. There are so many things I would've liked to do and so many questions I would asked. Time has only made that list overwhelmingly long! I sometimes see you at our local grocery store. Everyone tells me I still look the same - just older. I'm guessing you see me since we're in the same isle. I wish you would just say hi instead of not making eye contact when we pass. Just be prepared to call a paramedic. I would initiate contact, but because of your situation, I'm reluctant. I don't know what exactly is going on in your life, but you've captured my attention once again. Although, I'm pretty sure you always had it. Sorry I was just a dumb kid back then. The fact that I didn't continue to pursue you after what we went through shows just how dumb I was as a kid. If 33 years can go by and I become speechless in your presence, I'm guessing I may have missed out.
