SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — County Executive Steve Bellone announced three more coronavirus-related deaths in Suffolk County Sunday, bringing the county total up to 12. Bellone also discussed additional measures to keep essential workers safe during the pandemic, and explained that plans to erect a temporary hospital at Stony Brook University Hospital are still ongoing. The three latest victims of COVID-19 were a male in his 80s who died at home; a male in his 60s who was admitted to Stony Brook Hospital; and a male in his 50s who was at Southside Hospital in Bay Shore and reportedly had underlying comorbidities. Bellone also said the county will be holding a healthcare supply drive beginning Monday. The county is looking for essential protective items like n95 masks, gowns and goggles. The drive will run from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. weekdays at the Suffolk County Fire Academy located at 102 East Avenue in Yaphank. "We will continue to deliver supplies the best we can in the county to places that need it," he said. Other policies intended to keep bus drivers safe such as creating a buffer zone of empty seats behind the drivers were also announced. Bellone said the number of beds in the planned temporary hospital at Stony Brook is still being determined.
