HSS is expanding its roster of specialists at its Stamford and Westchester locations with the addition of several new physicians: Evan D. Sheha, MD; Brian P. Chalmers, MD; and Daniel H. Blatz, MD. Dr. Sheha joins as an assistant attending orthopedic surgeon at HSS Stamford and New York-Presbyterian Hospital. Dr. Sheha specializes in spinal surgery, including minimally invasive techniques, to treat the full range of degenerative spinal conditions involving the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine. He strongly believes in patient education and working closely with patients to develop a treatment plan for long-term spinal health. His clinical and research interests are in applying and enabling new technologies in spine surgery, including robotic-assisted techniques, augmented reality and 3D technology. Dr. Sheha graduated summa cum laude from Fordham University, where he was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. He obtained his medical degree from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City, and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his residency in orthopedic surgery at HSS, followed by a fellowship in spine surgery at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. Dr. Chalmers joins HSS Westchester, in White Plains, as an attending orthopedic surgeon in Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement. Dr. Chalmers specializes in hip and knee musculoskeletal care, including hip and knee replacement, partial knee replacement and periprosthetic fractures and infections. He is trained in computer-navigated and robotic surgical techniques and uses the latest surgical methods, research and pain management protocols to provide the best outcomes for patients. He enjoys the balance between seeing patients, performing surgeries, conducting academic research and educating residents and fellows. Dr. Chalmers graduated summa cum laude from the University of Notre Dame with a degree in science-business. He graduated summa cum laude from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, where he was elected president of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. He completed his orthopedic surgical residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and was appointed an administrative chief resident in his final year. He completed an additional year of training as a clinical fellow in Adult Reconstruction and Joint Replacement at HSS, where he received the Clinical Excellence Award. Dr. Chalmers will split his time between HSS Westchester and the main campus in New York City. Dr. Blatz joins HSS Stamford as an assistant attending physician in physiatry. Dr. Blatz's goal is for his patients to be as active as possible, and to partner with them through any future injuries as they maintain an active and fulfilling lifestyle. He believes in minimally invasive methods to help patients recover. He is head team physician for the U.S. Soccer Federation's Extended National Teams, which includes the National Beach, National Futsal and National Paralympic Soccer teams. He has worked with athletes across many sports as well as performing artists such as ballet dancers, musicians, acrobats and others. He is trained in regenerative medicine techniques including the use of platelet rich plasma to optimize healing. Dr. Blatz will also offer limited practice hours at HSS Westchester. Dr. Blatz received a bachelor of science in civil engineering from Bucknell University. He received both a master of public health degree and a medical degree from the State University of New York Downstate College of Medicine in Brooklyn. He completed his residency at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and Shirley Ryan AbilityLab (SRAlab) in Chicago. He completed his fellowship in sports medicine at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C. He joins HSS following prior work at Northwestern and SRAlab, where he was medical director of SRAlab's regenerative medicine and adaptive sports programs.
