The Friends of The Ferguson Library will host a virtual author event on Tuesday, October 13 at 6 p.m. via Zoom Webinar. John E. Morris, Author of Subway: The Curiosities, Secrets and Unofficial History of the New York City Transit System will discuss The Forgotten Characters Who Brought Us the New York City Subway. The politicians, bankers, engineers and contractors who bequeathed this vital infrastructure to us in the early 20th Century are largely forgotten. They were a remarkably talented and diverse group: an Irish immigrant; a poor Hudson Valley farm boy made good; a patrician genius whose family had colonial roots; the wealthy scion of a Jewish immigrant who had married into the Protestant elite; and a journalist-turned-politician and policy wonk. Subway is a visually stunning work, packed with original research, journalist and bestselling author John Morris brings life to this one-time engineering marvel that has united and expanded the city for the last 116 years. Registration required. Register online at fergusonlibrary.org/event/. Zoom webinar details will be included in the confirmation email.
