MILTON, MA — Former Milton High ace pitcher and Northeastern University hurler Sam Jacobsak has signed with the Philadelphia Phillies as an undrafted college free agent. Major League Baseball reduced its annual college draft to five rounds this year due to the coronavirus health emergency, with those who went undrafted last week eligible to sign this past weekend. Jacobsak was a four-year varsity player and team captain his senior year with the Wildcats. He struck out 155, with 35 walks, with a 1.24 ERA in 100 innings at Milton High. He also batted .315 as was a three-time Bay State Conference All-Star. "I am proud to announce that I have signed with the Philadelphia Phillies organization," the junior posted on his Twitter account on Saturday. "I just want to thank everyone at Northeastern for an unforgettable three years. Thank you to everyone who has helped my dreams come true." Jacobsak had the makings of a breakout spring with the Huskies before the coronavirus health emergency ended his season in March. A converted reliever, he went 2-1 with a 3.65 ERA in 24 2/3 innings pitched. He averaged 6 2/3 innings per start and struck out 25, with just five walks, in four starts. He finished the truncated season 10th in the Colonial Athletic Association in in ERA. #HowlinHuskies sweep the doubleheader with South Florida by a combined 12-0...Jacobsak 8.0 IP 2⃣ H 0⃣ BB 7⃣ K's...DiLoreto 2/4, Holzwasser 1⃣ RBI, Jarvis 3B 1⃣ R pic.twitter.com/GWeJVzzjIx— Northeastern Baseball (@GoNUbaseball) February 23, 2020 He was slated to pitch with the Harwich Mariners this summer before the Cape Cod League season was canceled due to coronavirus concerns.
