Maitri Farm is looking for Farm Crew for our 2022 season. Full time positions available. Must have production farm or professional landscape experience: The ideal candidates will have a natural enthusiasm for organic farming. The work can be challenging, between the varying weather conditions (heat, humidity, cold, rain and wind) and tasks that are sometimes strenuous, tedious, and/or repetitive. Thus a natural affinity for working outdoors is a must. We are looking for people with the following skills: • Must be able to lift 50lbs repeatedly, should be in fit physical condition. • Must be able to walk, stand, squat, and kneel for extended periods. • Must be willing to work outdoors in all types of weather. • Good communication and listening skills, able to follow instructions when given. • Attention to detail. • Works well independently and with others. Can maintain focus and work efficiently while working solo or with others. • Reliable transportation to and from the farm and a valid driver's license. • Some previous experience in vegetable farming is preferred, but not required. Job Responsibilities: • Propagation and care of greenhouse seedlings • Transplanting • Weeding and other plant maintenance (trellising, pruning, some irrigation set-up, etc.) • Harvesting • Washing and packing of produce for wholesale and farmers’ market sales, plus occasional help with making flower bouquets About Maitri: We grow NOFA-NY Certified Organic vegetables, and non-certified cut flowers using no synthetic sprays. We are located on the NY-CT border in northeast Dutchess County, NY and grow for markets in the Hudson Valley, Westchester County, and surrounding areas. The farm is named after the first of the four sublime states taught by the Buddha. Maitri has roots in the word "MITRA", which means "Friend." It is sometimes translated as “benevolence.” It is the disposition of love pervading in all directions and embracing all beings.
