Aloha, We are excited to offer multiple positions at ʻĀina Hoʻokupu o Kīlauea (AHK). ʻĀina Hoʻokupu o Kilauea is a 501c3 nonprofit whose mission is to improve the environmental, social, and economic well-being of the Kilauea and island of Kaua`i community by providing an organization through which we can 1) manage the donation of funds or real estate, 2) engage in cooperative effort and stewardship agreement with governmental agencies and other organizations on projects beneficial to the Kilauea and Kaua`i community, and 3) encourage other constructive activities aimed at protecting agricultural, cultural, historical, and natural resources of the Kilauea and all of Kaua`i areas. AHK is proud to administer the Kilauea Community Agricultural Center (KCAC) - an innovative project focused on increasing and supporting the sustainability of small farming on Kauai. We are currently looking to fill 3 various positions as listed below: FARM SPECIALIST The Farm Specialist is a hands-on farmer and produce aggregator and distributor, as needs demand. The Farm Specialist is expected to be an introductory or intermediate level farmer who is interested in building upon their farming skills. The ideal candidate will demonstrate experience from basic gardening knowhow to intermediate farming knowhow across a range of diverse crops and with different types of tools and equipment; key traits for success will include being a motivated and dedicated individual with a strong interest in farming, produce aggregation, distribution and farm business-related activities. Through providing labor and relevant skills, this role supports the farming team in meeting and exceeding farm expansion and production goals. This is either a Full-Time or a Part-Time Non-Exempt position located in Kilauea, Kaua`i, HI and reports to the Farm Manager. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Farm Specialist role requires, but is not limited to: Farm production activities for up to 20 unique crops with weekly harvests Includes bed maintenance, soil amendments, propagation, planting, fertilization, irrigation, harvesting, and other activities as required. Produce aggregation activities Includes produce receiving, wash & pack, storage, food safety, distribution, office coordination, and other activities as required. Record keeping (i.e. safety, attendance, hand washing, production, packaging, etc.) Maintain a clean environment and facilities Ability to get along and work effectively with others Regular, predictable attendance / ideally able to regularly work some weekends Adaptability, we are an expanding and fast-growing organization Willingness to be coached and mentored QUALIFICATIONS: A satisfactory combination of one (1) or more years of successful farming experience, gardening experience, training and/or formal education ______________________________________________________________________________ MAINTENANCE SPECIALIST The Maintenance Specialist is responsible to actively maintain the equipment and systems on the farm site. Equipment and machinery repair, mowing, weed-eating, weeding, and maintenance of the roadways and water systems are our primary focus for this position. The Maintenance Specialist position will work closely with the Farm Manager to ensure a good preventative maintenance schedule is established and followed and respond to unplanned breakages quickly to ensure ongoing operations of all key systems. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Ensure proper operation of equipment and infrastructure Responsible for orderliness and cleanliness of hand tools and harvest equipment Keep the grounds trimmed and cleaned Ensure the aesthetic standards are maintained Work closely with Farm Manager for priority concerns Teach relevant maintenance skills to interns Other duties as assigned REQUIREMENTS: Commitment and belief in AHK’s mission and values. Demonstrated experience and cultural competence working with diverse communities. At least three years of related work experience. Experienced in repairs and maintenance of various systems including proper use of tools and techniques to effect repairs Small equipment operating skills including operation of mowers, weedeaters, etc. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills and creativity. Ability to work independently including setting own goals and direction while also working collaboratively. Evening and weekend work might be required. Kind, collaborative, and a joy to be around PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in larger machine operation including skid steer, excavator, tractor etc. Knowledge of the local and Hawaiian culture _______________________________________________________________________________ ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT The Administrative Assistant (AA) supports the Administrative Director and the CEO to ensure that the office is staffed during business hours for handling requests and that administration duties/finances are successfully managed. The office has many functions which need to be addressed in a regular and timely manner including but not limited to: collecting and categorizing invoices and receipts, thanking donors with mahalo letters and managing contact information and communications, checking email addresses and responding to inquiries, communicating with other staff on emerging needs, assisting the CEO with status updates and calendaring, publishing a regular newsletter, organizing the office and files, performing website maintenance and updates, and developing content and posting to social media accounts. The AA will provide inputs to and support accounting functions, farm production, aggregation and delivery, and retail services, and perform other tasks as needed. The AA will coordinate all social media accounts and will provide administrative support to the CEO for all aspects of farm sales. The AA will support project development and implementation with community partners to advance a just and equitable community. This is a Full-Time Exempt position located in Kilauea, HI and reports to the Administrative Director. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The Administrative Assistant role requires, but is not limited to: Commitment and belief in AHK’s mission and values. Demonstrated experience and cultural competence working with diverse communities with reliability and integrity Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office/PowerPoint/Excel, website development and social media (Facebook/Instagram, etc.); preferred familiarity with QuickBooks Online, Dext (ReceiptBank), Google Suite, Square Space, Stripe, GivingFuel and CRM systems. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills necessary to develop and sustain professional relationships. Strong problem solving skills and creativity. Highly organized and able to create and maintain organizational systems. Flexibility in work-flow and ability to shift in and out of different projects. Ability to work independently while also working collaboratively. Attend all staff meetings. Kind, collaborative, and a joy to be around.
