As a single divorced woman herself, she is an expert at navigating the process of buying or renting a home. A top real estate agent for more than 40 years in the Ridgefield, Connnecticut area, Shapiro will share her tips on the latest housing trends - especially for women. Women have been second only to married couples in the home buying market since 1981, when the National Association of Realtors started tracking this data. The statistic is especially surprising when considering that up until 1974 women were not legally protected to get a mortgage without a co-signer. Now gender discrimination is prohibited under the Fair Housing Act and the Equal Credit Opportunity Act. The event will take place on May 11 at 7 p.m. at Hayvn, the beautiful women centered co-working space at 320 Boston Post Road, Suite 180 in Darien, CT. The group is an empowerment organization for women who are single, divorced, widowed or are in transition founded by Amy Polacko of Freedom Warrior divorce coaching (www.freedomwarrior.info). Admission is $20 and refreshments will be provided. The group always protect attendees' privacy and only takes photos if permission is granted. Advance registration is required. The group’s focus is moving forward – by supporting each other, learning from expert speakers and having fun.
