STAMFORD, CT — A Stamford man pleaded guilty to heroin distribution charges before U.S. District Judge Kari Dooley in Bridgeport on Monday, U.S. States Attorney for Connecticut John H. According to court documents and statements made in court, investigators made two controlled purchases of approximately 100 grams of heroin each from Veras in March and May 2019. They then arranged to purchase a kilogram of heroin from Veras for $58,000, Durham said. Veras was arrested May 16, 2019, and found to be in possession of approximately one kilogram of heroin, Durham said. Another kilogram of heroin, a quantity of cocaine, items used to process and package narcotics for sale and $7,000 in cash were also found during a search of a Stamford apartment that Veras used as a stash location, Durham said. Veras is scheduled to be sentenced in December. He has been detained since his arrest. Veras was previously sentenced in August 2011 in the southern district of New York to 57 months in prison for conspiring to distribute 100 grams or more of heroin, Durham said.
